Portable tanks, drums, or bottles are shipped by rail, ship, air, or truck. Portable tanks containing hazardous materials must conform to DOT regulations. Parts 173 and 178, Siibpart H. 

Outdoor storage related to processing facilities can encompass a wide-range of chemicals including raw materials, intermediates, finished, and off-specification product in a variety of container types such as drums, portable and tote tanks, and intermodal tank containers. Materials, including spare, surplus, or salvaged equipment, are also stored outdoors. 

When the outdoor storage of significant numbers of drums, portable and tote tanks or intermodal tank containers becomes necessary, the following should be considered in addition to a review and assessment of mutual fire and explosion hazards ... 

In some facilities, there is a need for refrigerated storage of one or more flammable or combustible raw materials, catalysts, intermediate products, or finished goods. These materials may be in solid or liquid form in containers, boxes, drums, or small portable tanks. Depending on quantity of materials to be stored and required temperature, these facilities can range from cold storage warehouses for storage of food products to walk-in freezer rooms for pharmaceutical materials. 

The GEiM-lOOO low-temperature thermal desorption unit is an ex situ technology that treats soils contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This process involves a countercurrent drum, pulse-jet baghouse, and a catalytic oxidizer mounted on a single portable trailer. As the soil is heated in the GEM-1000 unit, contaminants are vaporized. The contaminants are then directed to the system s catalytic oxidizer, which is designed to convert virtually all of the VOCs to carbon dioxide and water vapor. The oxidizer contains approximately 4.9 ft of noble metal catalyst and can destroy between 95 and 99% of the hydrocarbons when operating between 600 and 1250°F. 

SR2 owns four portable LTTD plants including two 4-ft (rotary drum internal diameter) units, one 5-ft unit, and a 6-ft unit.

Completely drain out acid from a pipe before opening. This can be done by loosening the lower bolts of a flanged joint and placing a drum below it. Acid collected in the drum can be transferred/put back in the APT by means of a small portable pump.
