Polyvinyl phosphorus-containing

The BCD is very sensitive to phthalate esters, for example di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate which is a common contaminant of blood stored in polyvinyl chloride containers (Fig. 1). The AFID can be made virtually specific for phosphorus-containing compounds, but retains its capability to detect phosphorus even when optimised for nitrogen compounds. The contaminant tri-isobutyl phosphate from filter paper is not apparent when using the FID, but produces the largest peak on the chromatogram with the AFID in the nitrogen mode (Fig. 2). 

The use of triallyl phosphate together with bromoform and a small imount of polyvinyl alcohol as the components of a phosphorus-containing aolymer which is formed on heat curing, has been recommended (Frick, A eaver, and Reid, Text. Res.J., 1955,25,100). These components may ilso be used in conjunction with THPC (Reid et al, Text. Res.J., 1956,26, 41). Trisaziridinylphosphine oxide (APO), obtained by the action of phos-)horyi chloride on ethylene imine, has been used to co-polymerize with TFIPC ... 

Vinyl and allyl phosphonates can be used as comonomers in addition polymers. Also, modifications of polymers with phosphorus-containing groups, such as phosphorylation of polyvinyl alcohol, leads to improvements in flame retardancy compared to the polymers themselves. Phosphorus-containing acrylates have adhesive properties as well as FR ones. Acrylates containing phosphonic acid groups have some interesting and encouraging properties. 

Of the phosphorus-containing stabilizers, aromatic esters of phosphoric acid, such as tricresyl phosphate, have received the most widespread use. In many of them, stabilizing action is combined with plasticizing action. The properties of a number of esters of phosphoric acid used as stabilizers and plasticizers of polyvinyl chloride are discussed in the collection [287]. 

Polymers containing halogen or phosphorus also showed increased oxygen indices, — for example polyvinyl chloride (01=45) vs. polyethylene (01=18). Of course, the principle of intentionally adding halogen or phosphorus compounds to polymers is one of the main approaches to flame retarding polymers. 

An indirect method for the detection of phosphate, which involves the fluorescence quenching of the Al-Morin complex by P04 , has also been described for the detection of phosphorus oxyacids separated by ion chromatography (IC) [103]. More recently, a polyvinyl chloride matrix containing Al-Morin was used to prepare membrane sensor for detection of phosphate by fluorescence quenching. The membrane had a lifespan of 90-120 days and a linear detection range of 6-15 mg (0.19-0.48 mM) making it suitable only for wastewater analysis [104].
