Polyphenylene oxide impact modifiers

Polyphenylene Oxide Blends with Impact Modifiers... [Pg.331]

Modified-polyphenylene oxide (or ether) is a blend of high impact polystyrene (PS) and polyphenylene oxide (PPO), plus thermal stabilizers and a triarylphosphate flame retardant. Studies of the mechanism of the flame retardant in modified-polyphenylene oxide have shown some evidence for both solid phase and vapor phase inhibition (4). Indeed, one is always interested to know whether flame retardant action is on the solid or vapor phase. [Pg.312]

Modification of Engineering Resins Specific interaction of the phosphonium ionomer from Exxpro elastomer with selected engineering resins such as Polycarbonates(PC), Polyesters(PET), Polyacrylates(PAE), Polyamides(PA), Polyphenylene Oxide(PPO), and Acetals(PAc) can be utilized to compatibilize, impact modify or nucleate the above resin in blends with similar polymers. Typical examples are ... [Pg.213]

Modified Poiyphenyiene Ether Thermoplastic polyphenylene ether alloys with impact polystyrene. Has good impact strength, resistance to heat and fire, but poor resistance to solvents. Processed by injection and structural foam molding and extrusion. Used in auto parts, appliances, and telecommunication devices. Also called MPE, MPO, and Modified Polyphenylene Oxide. [Pg.200]

The modifier forms a particulate dispersion in the polymer phase, and under stress, crazing develops around modifier particles. Moreover, the addition of a compatibilizer improves particle dispersion and interfacial adhesion, resulting in engaged toughness. Rubber modified polystyreue, high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), or polyphenylene oxide can be used as a modifier. The compatibilizer can be a triblock copolymer of styrene-ethylene-propylene. The copolymer can even be random. [Pg.167]
