Polymer homogeneous

Metathesis is not limited to acyclic alkenes. Cyclic alkenes also undergo metathesis with the formation of polymers. Homogeneous catalysts are used in most cases. New polymers are produced in this way by Huls, CdF Chimie and Hercules.

Homogeneous Solution Polymerization in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide These polymerizations require that the monomer, the initiator and the polymer remain in solution throughout the reaction. Because carbon dioxide is not a very good solvent for majority of polymers, homogeneous solution polymerizations have been limited to either low conversion operations, or to a few special, mostly fluorinated, monomer/polymer cases that display high solubility in carbon dioxide. A well-known example is the polymerization of 1,1 dihydroperfluorooctyl acrylate (FOA) to from poly(FAO)[3, 17]. 

Two terms for blends are commonly used in literature—miscible blend and compatible blend. The terminology recommended by Utracki (1) will be used in this article. By the miscible polymer blend, we mean a blend of two or more amorphous polymers homogeneous down to the molecular level and fulfilling the thermodynamic conditions for a miscible multicomponent system. An immiscible polymer blend is the blend that does not comply with the thermodynamic conditions of phase stability. The term compatible polymer blend indicates a commercially attractive polymer mixture that is visibly homogeneous, frequently with improved physical properties compared with the constituent polymers.

As described above, noble metal nanopartides with narrow size distribution can be introduced in polymers homogeneously resulting in translucent composites. In particular these nanocomposite materials offer completely new anisotropic optical properties, when either anisotropic partides (e.g., nanorods, nanowires) are used or the partides are uniaxially oriented.
