Polymers gold-labeled

The thermoplastics were investigated by CIGC well below their glass transitions so that surface thermodynamics were dominant. Column temperatures were varied over a 40C range in order to find enthalpies and entropies of interaction. When injected into the capillary columns coated with the thermoplastic polymers, the three probes listed above exhibited peaks which tailed continuously even at the lowest possible concentrations. For this reason, weaker acids and bases which eluted as symmetric peaks were used to study the polymer surfaces. Specifically, methylene chloride (CH Cl.) with an AN of 20.4 and its DN is equal to 0, and nitromethane TNO -CH ) having an AN equal to 20.5 and DN equal to 2.7 were chosen. These chemicals were gold-label grade from Aldrich Chemical and stored over 4 A molecular sieves before use. 

The first report of this type was by Zavala and Brandon [48] who sectioned root tips at low temperature in order to try and prevent the redistribution of hormones. Their tissue sections were then probed with dihydrozeatin antibodies labelled with rhodamine. For electron microscopy, samples were freeze-substituted in ethanol or acetone and then embedded in polymers prior to sectioning and probing with colloidal gold-labelled antibodies. For each gold nanoparticle, it was coordinated to nine pyridine ligands from the P4VP block, and each particle was essentially labeled with an Os(bpy)2(pyridine) complex. Electrochemistry results suggested that the osmium complex enhanced the conductivity of the polymer/nano-particle composite film.

Analogous to the use of spin probes in the investigation of polymer coated electrodes is the use of a spin label to investigate the electrode-solution interface.
