Xenon difluoride (or the tetrafluoride, or their mixtures) could not be caused to detonate by impact. Xenon difluoride and xenon tetrafluoride both may cause explosion in contact with acetone, aluminium, pentacarbonyliron, styrene, polyethylene, lubricants, paper, sawdust, wool or other combustible materials. Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology converts synthesis gas produced by reforming of methane or coal gasification into waxy products. The chemical inertness oi Polythene has found application in the manufacture of many items of apparatus for the laboratory. Rigid Applications. The use of the lead stabilizers is very limited in the United States but, they are stiU used in several rigid PVC appHcations in Europe and Asia. The highest use of lead stabilizers in rigid PVC is for pipe and conduit appHcations. Tribasic lead sulfate is the primary heat stabilizer with lead stearates included to provide lubrication. The lead products are typically fully formulated, usually including lubricants and pigments for pipe extmsion appHcations. These lead one-packs, when used at about 1.8—2.5 phr, provide all of the stabilizer and lubrication needed to process the polymer. A lead one-pack contains tribasic lead sulfate, dibasic lead stearate calcium stearate, polyethylene wax, paraffin wax, ester wax, and pigments. [Pg.552]

Antioxidants. The 1,2-dihydroquinolines have been used in a variety of ways as antioxidants (qv). For example, l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline along with its 6-decyl [81045-48-9] and 6-ethoxy [91-53-2] derivatives have been used as antio2onants (qv) and stabilizers (68). A polymer [26780-96-1] of l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline is used in resins, copolymers, lubricant oils, and synthetic fibers (69). These same compounds react with aldehydes and the products are useful as food antioxidants (70). A cross-linked polyethylene prepared with peroxides and other monomers in the presence of l,2-dihydro-6-ethoxyquinoline produces polymers with a chemically bonded antioxidant (71). [Pg.393]

Sulfurized olefins (S2CI2 plus isobutene) are further reacted with S and Na2S to give products useful as extreme pressure lubricant additives (144,145). The reaction of unsaturated natural oils with sulfur monochloride gives resinous products known as Factice, which are useful as art-gum erasers and mbber additives (146,147). The addition reaction of sulfur monochloride with unsaturated polymers, eg, natural mbber, produces cross-links and thus serves as a means for vulcanizing mbber at moderate temperatures. Polybutenes enjoy extensive use as adhesives, caulks, sealants, and glaring compounds. They are used as plasticizers in mbber formulations with butyl mbber, SBR, and natural mbber. In linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends they induce cling to stretch-wrap films. Polybutenes when modified at their unsaturated end groups with polar fiinctionahty are widely employed in lubricants as dispersants. Blends of polybutene with polyolefins produce semisoHd gels that can be used as potting and electrical cable filling materials. [Pg.487]
