Polyether, linear

Di(linear-alkyl) ethers Branched-alkyl ethers Linear polyethers (Linear polyoxaalkanes)... [Pg.66]

Linear polyethers derived from three or more molecules of aliphatic dihydroxy compounds, particularly when the chain length exceeds ten units, are most conveniently named by open-chain replacement nomenclature. For example, CH3CH2—O—CH2CH2—O—CH2CH3 could be 3,6-dioxaoctane or (2-ethoxy)ethoxyethane. [Pg.31]

Information on the production levels of the perfluoroethers and perfluorotertiary amines is not disclosed, but the products are available commercially and are marketed, for instance, as part of the Fluorinert Electronic Liquids family by 3M Co. (17). These Hquids have boiling points of 30—215°C with molecular weights of about 300—800. They range in price from 26—88/kg. Perfluoropropene oxide polyethers are marketed by Du Pont with the trade name Krytox (29). The linear perfluoropropene oxide polyethers are marketed by Daikin under the trade name Demnum (28). The perfluoropolyethers derived from photooxidation are marketed by Montefluos under the trade name of Fomblin (30). These three classes of polyethers are priced from about 100—150/kg. [Pg.298]

This process is based on the very high reactivity of the isocyanate group toward hydrogen present ia hydroxyl groups, amines, water, etc, so that the chain extension reaction can proceed to 90% yield or better. Thus when a linear polymer is formed by chain extension of a polyester or polyether of molecular weight 1000—3000, the final polyurethane may have a molecular weight of 100,000 or higher (see Urethane polymers). [Pg.471]

A wide range of polyurethane-type products has become available in recent years for coating applications. These include simple solutions of linear polyurethanes, two-pot alkyd-isocyanate and polyether-isocyanate systems and a variety of prepolymer and adduct systems. The coatings can vary considerably in hardness and flexibility and find use mainly because of their toughness, abrasion resistance and flexibility. Uses include metal finishes in chemical plant, wood finishes for boats and sports equipment, finishes for rubber goods and rain-erosion-resistant coatings for aircraft. One type of coating is potentially competitive with PVC leathercloth. Both alkyd-di-isocyanate and adduct-diisocyanate compositions may be coated on to fabrics from solutions of controlled viscosity and solids content. Such coated fabrics are soft, flexible and, unlike PVC leathercloth, free from plasticisers. [Pg.805]

Applied stress There are TPs that will craze or crack under certain environmental condition. Products that are highly stressed mechanically must be checked very carefully. Polypropylene, ionomer, chlorinated polyether, phenoxy, EVA, and linear polyethylene are examples that offer greater freedom from stress crazing than some other TPs. Solvents may crack products held under stress. TSs is generally preferable for products under continuous loads. [Pg.432]

Weathering Many plastics has short lives when exposed to outdoor conditions. The better materials include acrylic, chlorotri-fluorethylene, vinylidene fluoride, chlorinated polyether, polyester, alkyd, and black linear poly-ethylene. Black materials are best for outdoor service. Some of the styrene copolymers are suitable for certain outdoor uses (Chapter 2, WEATHERING/ ENVIRONMENT). [Pg.434]

The basic polymer appears to be a hydroxylated polyether to which octadecyl chains have been bonded and so it behaves as a reverse phase exhibiting dispersive interactions with the solutes. An example of the separation of a series of peptides is shown in figure 15. The column was 3.5 cm long, 4.6 mm i.d. The solutes shown were (1) oc-endorphin, (2) bombesin, (3) y-endorphin, (4) angiotensin, (5) somatostatin and (6) calcitonon. The separation was carried out with a 10 min linear program from water containing 0.2% trifluoroacetic acid to 80% acetonitrile. [Pg.90]

Standard curves performed under our defined radioimmunoassay conditions ([ H]PbTx-3 = 1 nM, antiserum dilution = 1 2000, assay volume = 1 ml) demonstrated the ability of this antiserum to bind equally to PbTx-2 and PbTx-3, suggesting specificity for the cyclic polyether backbone region of the molecule (Figure 8). The linear portion of the curve indicated a lower detection limit of 0.2-0.5 ng in saline buffer under these conditions. Evaluation of this assay for use with biological fluids and tissue extracts is underway. [Pg.187]

If R is a polymeric ester, or ether, of molecular weight 1000-3000 a flexible elastic material will result. By reacting MDI and active hydrogen components (polyether/ester and a short chain glycol) in equivalent stoichiometric quantities, a linear polymer with virtually no crosslinks is obtained. [Pg.117]

A much better agreement between theory and experiment is found in the closely-related field of macrocyclisation equilibria. Investigations of the cyclic populations in ring-chain equilibrates set up in typical polymeric systems such as polyesters, polyethers, polysiloxanes, and polyamides take a major advantage from the relative ease with which the cyclic fraction can be separated from the linear fraction and analysed for the relative abundance of the individual oligomeric rings. This is conveniently done by means of modern analytical techniques such as gas-liquid and gel-permeation chromatography (Semiyen, 1976). [Pg.69]

Parallel studies on PAMAM dendrimers, the Frechet type polyether den-drons, and other dendrimer families have generated an extensive list of unique properties driven by the dendritic state/ Figure 1.18 compares several significant physical property differences between the linear and dendritic topologies related to conformations, crystallinity, solubilities, intrinsic viscosities, entanglement, diffusion/mobility and electronic conductivity. [Pg.33]
