Conceptually similar are single-layer photoreceptors such as PVK filled with a photoconductive pigment, such as IV,IV-di(3,5-dimethylphenyl)perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimi.de (32), or a photoconductor containing a bisazo photoconductive pigment, a hole transporting molecule such as an indolinyl hydrazone derivative of carbazole shown in Fig. 5i, in a polyester binder (33). In practice, this photoconductor is charged positively even though both holes and electrons are mobile. 

For many years syntactic foams have been used in construction, in sandwich structures, or as imitation wood or marble 22,57 180). Many types of these materials are applied in the boat-building industry 17 66). For example, recently PVDC microspheres with polyester binder were used to produce the decks of a 10 m sail-boat, with a weight reduction of 100 kg (from 250 to 150 kg)46). 

Binders for thermosetting powder coatings are often called a hardener. The hardeners are a mixture of a primary resin and a cross-linker. The major types of binders can be limited to polyester, epoxy, hybrid epoxypolyester, acrylic, and UV cure types. Polyester binders are used for good exterior durability, retention of gloss, and resistance to chalking. 

Owing to this rapid cure, a compressive strength of 40 N/mm is possible within 2 h at temperatures down to 4°C (Shaw, 1993a). The properties of polyester binder depend primarily upon the chemical composition of the polyester resin component. Typical physical properties of cured polyester binders for concrete overlays are given in Table 9.3 (ACI, 1993).

Bulk properties of coatings can be modified through the introduction of various binding agents [212]. Hydrophobic properties are imparted by organo-silicon, oil-resin, and alkyd binders. In three of the four considered cases the experimental domain includes the point related to the most desirable concrete.For all the considered concretes an optimal microfiller content is about twice higher than the resin binder content. This result corresponds to conclusions obtained on the basis of theoretical considerations when one assumes obtaining concrete with resin binder exclusively in "ordering state"[5]. Values of the overall desirability for the polyester concretes are greater than those for the epoxy concretes.lt is probably connected with lower viscosity of polyester binder and in consequence with better homogenization of the composite.
