Polyaciylic acids

Rossi et al. [30] evaluated rheologically mucins of different origin with polyacrylic acid and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The same group also reported a novel rheological approach based on a stationary viscoelastic test (creep test) to describe the interaction between mucoadhesive polymers and mucins [31,32]. Jabbari et al. [33] used attenuated total-reflection infrared spectroscopy to investigate the ehain interpenetration of polyaciylic acid in the mucin interface. [Pg.177]

Polyaciylic acid (PAA) (Mn=100,000 g/mol) and polyethylenimine (PEI) (Mn=25,000 g/mol) were deposited on the PET film modified with a PGMA layer using the same technique as for PPFS. The solution concentration (1 wt/vol %) and solvent (methanol) were the same for both polymers. The thickness of the dip coated films was 30 + 2 nm. Typical grafting times were 10 minutes and 1 hour. The temperature of grafting varied from 40°C to 120°C. After the thermal treatment, the samples were rinsed with methanol several times. [Pg.292]

Table 1 includes the contact angle values of deionized water (0 ) recorded on different samples. Each sample has been designated by a number from 1 to 5 whose notation is inserted in the title of Table 1. Based on the given data, sample 1 exhibits a hydrophobic characteristic which after being treated by plasma, an evident change in 0 arises and hydrophilicity ascends as anticipated. This trend continues as to sample 3 on which polyaciylic acid (PAA) chains are grafted where more hydrophilic propensity is shown inferred from 0 value. The elevated hydrophilicity upon multistep modifications is assumed to come from the inclusion of superficial hydrophilic entities. The hydrophilicity then decreases as polysaccharides are coated onto the surface, though is well higher than that of sample 1, as the inherent hydrophilicity of chitosan is beyond... Mucoadhesive polymers have been divided into synthetic and naturally occurring. The following synthetic polymers have been evaluated for mucoadhesion, with variable results hydroxypropylcellulose, polyaciylic acid, high molecular weight (>200,000) polyethylene glycols, dextrans, hyaluronic acid, polygalacturonic acid, etc. [Pg.117]

Lead Complexadon Complexation is a conventional technique to remove environmental pollutants. Various complexing compounds e g. polyaciylic acid (7) and cafifeic acid (2) are in use for lead removal. Lead complexes with these compounds in the form of a coordinate covalent bond. The lead metal ion (or cation) in a complex is called the central atom, the electron-pair donating species from the complexing compound is called the ligand and the number of bonds the central atom can form is called its coordination number. [Pg.116]
