Poly methy lene

It is important to note that high molecular weight trans-isotactic poly(methy-lene-1,3-cyclopentane) contains no mirror or mirror glide planes of symmetry and is thus chiral by virtue of its main chain stereochemistry (it exhibits optical activity) this is in contrast to high molecular weight polypropylene and other poly(a-olefin)s, which contain an effective mirror plane perpendicular to the molecular axis in the middle of the molecule and are thus achiral [30,497],... [Pg.196]

The smallest constitutional repeating unit in an unbranched organic polymer is a divalent free radical. The name of this biradical is formed in the same way as for low-molar-mass organic chemistry. Thus, the group —CH2— is called methylene and the corresponding polymer is called poly(methy-lene). Examples of names for other diradicals are as follows ... [Pg.25]

By contrast, an example of formation of enantioselective polymer from achiral monomers, where the chirality is inherent in the main chain is polymerization of 1,5-hexadiene with an optically active catalyst [77]. The catalyst precursors are (R,R) or (S,S)-[ethylene-l,2-bis(r -4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-l-indenyl)zirconium (l,l -by-l-naphtholate). The product is an optically active version of poly(methy-lene-1,3-cyclopentane) ... [Pg.61]

The development of copolymeric microspheres of poly (Virtyl Acetate-Co-Mehtacrylic acid) for in vitro release of Acebutolol hydrochloride is an antihypertensive dmg. These copolymeric microspheres were crosslinked with A,A/ -methy-lene bis acrylamide have been prepared by the flee radical emulsion polymerization nsing varying amoimts of dnyl Acetate (VAc), Mehtacrylic acid (MAc) and N,N-methylene bis acrylamide (NNMBA), which, for controlled release of Acebutolol hydrochloride were loaded into these microspheres during in situ polymerization. [Pg.104]

Figure 8.12 TEM photographs of triblock copolymers dispersed in a DGEBA-diamine epoxy network. The triblock copolymer is polystyrene-b-polybuta-diene-b-poly(methyl methacrylate), and the epoxy hardener is (a) 4,4 -methy-lene bis [3-chloro-2,6 diethylaniline], MCDEA, and (b) 4,4 -diamino diphenyl sulfone, DOS. In the case of the epoxy system based on MCDEA, the PMMA block is miscible up to the end of the epoxy reaction. In the case of the epoxy system based on DDS, the PMMA block phase-separates during reaction. (From LMM Library.)... In contrast to diazomethane, homopolymerization of higher diazoalkanes and aryldiazomethanes have not been so successful, giving lower molecular weight polymers in lower yields in general. Recently, Wada, Morisaki, and Chujo applied the BF3-initiated polymerization to paracyclophane-substituted diazomethanes, aiming at the synthesis of C-C main chain polymers, whose main chain is densely surrounded by cyclophane units [19]. The poly(cyclophane-substituted methy-lene)s with M = 800 1,300 were obtained in 5 20% yields. As expected,... [Pg.197]
