Coal mine gas (called Coal bed Gas) is a kind of associated gas from the coal seam in coal mine exploitation process in different forms, which is one of the main reasons of the coal mine accident. As the first fatal factor in coal mine, the gas accident not only causes a large number of casualties and huge economic losses, and imperils the safety of coal mine production seriously once it occurs. Gas concerns the major issues of environmental pollution, the greenhouse effect and the future of new energy. It can be used after recovered rapidly if the coal mine gas develops, storages and transports high-efficiently in moderate environment. Meanwhile it will be reduced that the cost, the hidden safety trouble and the gas emission pollution to the environment. Thus it is badly in need of a new type of gas utilization technology to make up for the current technical defects. Hydrate method is an optional way. [Pg.1017]

These processes tend to produce Hquids that are higher priced than those derived from cmde oil. Timing for commercialization depends on a number of factors, including price of cmde oil, need for energy self-sufficiency, and environmental considerations. The factors are different for each of the potential sources. Environmental considerations include polution from burning the fuel itself, poUution from the whole production cycle, and production of gases that are involved in the enhanced greenhouse effect (see Air pollution). [Pg.195]

The supercritical fluid carbon dioxide, C02, is of particular interest This compound has a mild (31°C) critical temperature (Table 1) it is nonflammable, nontoxic, and, especially when used to replace freons and certain organic solvents, environmentally friendly. Moreover, it can be obtained from existing industrial processes without further contribution to the greenhouse effect (see Air pollution). Carbon dioxide is fairly miscible with a variety of organic solvents, and is readily recovered after processing owing to its high volatility. It is a small linear molecule and thus diffuses more quickly than... [Pg.219]

A study by the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) assessed the environmental impacts of mechanical and feedstock recycling and energy recovery of waste plastics. It was compared in terms of consumption of resomces and environmental emission pollution potential. The criteria of consumption of energetically exploitable resources and contribution to the greenhouse effect lead to the following order of preference for feedstock recycling and energy recovery processes ... [Pg.262]

It has to be bom in mind that in addition to well-recognized pollution mediated health effects, other major areas that have emerged in the 1990s in the domain of environmental pollution monitoring recently in India includes ozone layer depletion, greenhouse effect, persistence of chemical species, acidic deposition, and altered biogeochemical cycles. [Pg.123]
