Polianthes tuberosa

Tuberose absolute is obtained by solvent extraction, via the concrete, from the blossoms of Polianthes tuberosa L. (Agavaceae). The plants are cultivated in Egypt and India. Tuberose absolute was formerly produced in southern France by enfieurage. It is an orange to brown liquid with a sweet-narcotic blossom odor and is used in modern, flowery perfume compositions. Its main constituents are esters of benzoic acid [801, 802], FCT 2000 (38, suppl. 3) p. S231, [8024-05-3], [94334-35-7],... [Pg.222]

A unique blend of volatiles like the ower scents in rose (Rosa spp.), jasmine Jasminum sambac), or tuberose Polianthes tuberosa). Such owers produce and immediately emit the volatiles by the epidermal layers of their petals (Bergougnoux et al., 2007). Therefore, the yield is even in intensive smelling owers very low, and besides distillation special techniques, as an example, en enrage has to be applied to recover the volatile fragrance compounds. [Pg.44]

Polianthes tuberosa is a bulbous plant originally derived from Mexico. It is grown in England under glass for the fragrance of its white flowers, which is most powerful at night. The tuberous bulbs are imported from Genoa, and also from North America, but even with artificial heat the flowers do not develop such a powerful perfume as in the South of France, where the plants are cultivated in the open air. [Pg.94]
