Peppermint water

Aqua are aqueous solution of volatile substance used as solvent in certain pharmaceutical preparation to mask the disagreeable taste of drug e.g. peppermint water. [Pg.12]

An inquest in 1999 into the death of a baby who had suffered from colic showed the danger of inappropriately administered essential oil. It appears that a prescription for peppermint water was incorrectly dispensed and either the neat or a very concentrated form of the oil was used. [Pg.248]

Tonic Aromatic Mixture. Digest in a close vessel for 3 days, agitating frequently, 1 ounce powdered pale cinchona baric, 3 drachms powdered calumba root, 2 drachms bruised cloves, and 4 ounce iron ings in 16 fluid ounces peppermint water strain, and add 3 fluid ounces compound tincture of cardamoms, and 3 fluid drachms tincture of orange peel. Despite the relative lack of information about side effects related to pharmacy prepared products, there have been reports of catastrophic errors associated with them, including an error in the US that led to a 1,000-fold overdose of clonidine in a 5 year old child [1].
