Plugging drain

Processing facilities have experienced several serious pipe trench fires. Contributing to the size of the fires were inadequate or plugged drains, lack of isolation valves, pipelines on the ground, or inadequate fire stops along the length of the trenches. Pipe trench fires can result in significant business interruption. [Pg.281]

Drain. Bearing housing shall be provided with tapped and plugged drain hole at its lowest point. When replacement grease is specified, a means for grease relief shall be provided. [Pg.22]

When liquid circulation is used for column dehydration (in addition to heating), it is common to perform the heating and dryout in steps of cold, warm, and hot circulation. The cold circulation ( 100°F) sweeps water to low points, from where it must be drained. All the drains must be operated until no more water comes out any plugged drains must be unblocked. During the warm circulation, the temperature is gradually raised to about 180°F. This step melts any residual ice and vaporizes remaining pockets of water. [Pg.308]

The proper corrosion maintenance program should prevent or eliminate the conditions favoring corrosion (i) trapped moisture (ii) wet insulation blankets (iii) plugged drain holes and passages (iv) chipped or missing paint (v) loss of protective finish (vi) corrosive cargo. [Pg.288]

There is a plugged drain opening in each cell. The drains are provided for use during washdowns of any con tamina ted. equi pmen t wi thin th e ce 11 s. These drains along with the one in the main exi,t duct, drain, to a sump beneath the building floor. The waste is pumped from the sump to the retention basin.. [Pg.350]

The major problem with steam distribution is condensate removal. If steam traps are working properly while significant steam loss stiU occurs, the c ause may be inadequate drainage in condensate discharge locations (CDLs). The consequence is condensate backing up in the system due to blocked traps and plugged drains. The water falls to the bottom of the pipe, which could cause water hammer and lower heat transfer efficiency. [Pg.391]

Opening plugged drains, vents, bleeders, and other small connections is a serious business. The troubleshooter, who must frequently utilize little-used sample points and pressure connections, should be cognizant of the hazards involved. Here is a typical story that the reader will do well to avoid repeating. [Pg.252]

In defense of this unorthodox procedure, the author can only say that he has seen it done repeatedly and that it is the only way to get a drum with a plugged drain line rapidly drained. Before applying this remedy, the decoking crew should ascertain that the drum is completely depressured and that the water level is well below the lowest radiation-level detection point. One way to improve drainage is to install a distributor at the feed nozzle to preyent the nozzle from plugging. [Pg.309]

The problem with the precondenser is condensate backup. Something, perhaps a partially plugged drain line, is restricting... [Pg.288]

Valves are mounted so that the plug of the valve is flush with the tank to avoid a pocket of unpasteurized milk, and a leak detector valve permits drainage of the milk trapped in the plug of the valve. Ad. covers, piping, and tubing must drain away from the pasteurizer. [Pg.355]

Drain plug or cock A removable plug or valve that allows water, condensate, or other liquids to be drained from a system. [Pg.1431]

A man was standing on a ladder, ready to go down into a drain manhole to plug one of the inlet lines. The drain contained some hydrogen sulfide, so he had an air mask ready. But he had not yet put it on because he was well outside the manhole. His feet were at ground level (Figure 11-3). He... [Pg.238]
