Coor s beer bottle During the mid-1950s, Coor sBeer Company in Colorado almost used commercially stretched, injection blow-molded bottles. It would have used the blow-molding injection with rotation process. Unfortunately, it was using acrylonitrile-styrene plastic (AN-styrene from Barex plastic from Sohia of BP Chemical International) (DVR project), which was banned by the FDA. It is produced at one half the weight and with four times the tear strength of rubber boots, and can be processed on plastics blow molding equipment in one twelfth the time. Car makers are now saying that the boot of HYTREL lasts six times longer than the older rubber designs. What makes this story so powerful is that a polyester elastomer has succeeded, far beyond the capability of any rubber, in an application where many experts insisted that no thermoplastic could survive.
