Production Rc-quirc-mc-nts. Production of commodity chemicals usuaHy requkes large dedicated plants, generaHy in continuous operation and often with a proprietary process. A basic raw material position is preferred and is sometimes requked. Specialty chemicals, on the other hand, requke smaH- to medium-sized batch-type plants with inherent flexibHity. A basic raw material position is rarely requked. 

Based on a typical medium-sized pilot plant of 10—20 control loops. For smaller units (<10 control loops) reduce the above by 25—40% for larger units (20—40 control loops) increase the costs by 50—100%. 

Starting with the boiler(s), these will be set out giving due consideration to space between boilers and other items of plant in order to give adequate access to all equipment, valves and controls for operation and maintenance. For small- to medium-sized boilers 1 meter may be considered a reasonable space between items of plant where access is required. With large boilers (including watertube), this may be increased up to 3 m. The width of firing aisle will be dependent upon the size and type of boiler. 

On medium-sized boiler plant where gas is to be the main fuel, it may have oil as a secondary standby fuel. In this case, the chimney height must be based on the grade of fuel oil capable of being burned. 

The production process is comparatively simple, even though — of course — the respective know-how is also decisive. The equipment for the production of sintered PVC separators is suitable in size and production capacity to be operated on its own by individual, medium-sized, starter battery plants, in contrast to the far larger units required for the production of polyethylene pocket material. 

For most small to medium-size, light-industrial factories and facilities operating HP steam boiler plants at perhaps 30 to 150 psig, if and when problems of corrosion occur, they generally are of a more mundane nature.
