Supply chain decisions planning phase

The goal of the first phase is to obtain the more adequate supply chain configuration for the specific demand considered. The results of this phase include decisions about which sites will be used, their run times and the transportation needs between sites, without proceeding to time allocation. All this information is dependent on production rates initially supplied by site managers, which may not be accurate enough, since they will depend on the final work load allocation made in a competitive way. Thus, these production rates should be negotiated in view of the initial and subsequent planning results and their consequences when low level site-specific constraints are applied. [Pg.414]

In later chapters, we develop concepts and present methodologies that can be used at each of the three decision phases described earlier. Most of our discussion addresses the supply chain design and planning phases. [Pg.7]
