Long-term strategic planning

Complete LCAs are still very time consuming. Periods of up to three person-montiis are frequent for studies where considerable amounts of data are already available, and times approaching a person-year may be necessary for studies with lower availability of data [8]. The latter kind is currently only justified for long-term strategic planning or compliance with legislation. 

Typically, the long term (strategic) plans consist of the same activities as shorter-term plans. However, the degree of accuracy and detail is much lower. As time passes, the long term plans will convert into medium term (tactical) plans with a higher degree of detail and ultimately into operational plans with a planning horizon in the span of one day up to a year. 

The use of the MILP model improved BMW s long-term strategic planning process. It made the planning process more transparent and reduced the planning effort. It also resulted in the reduction of 5.7% in investment and the cost of materials, production, and distribution.

We are at the start of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety following from the UN Declaration and the 4th Road Safety Action Programme adopted by the European Commission for the years 2011 2020. To ensure an effective and efficient road safety policy we need tools to help with strategic decisions. Long-term strategic road safety and road infrastructure programmes and plans rely on road safety forecasts and assessments of the current situation and how it will evolve over extended periods of time (10, 20 or even 30 years). 

At the strategic level, boiler water treatment practice is essentially the planned, actioned, and documented management of the waterside of pre-boiler, boiler, and post-boiler plant equipment and systems. A key objective is to identify, obtain, and maintain operational and economic benefits for the plant owners, including maintaining the cleanliness and structural integrity of the boiler, its various water-steam cycle auxiliaries, and other components for a specified (long-term) period and to some quantifiable standard.
