Producing profiles according to the planar offset results in the profde being dependent on the pitch, which Fig. 5.13 demonstrates. Particularly, the tip angle depends on the pitch.

This assures both that the part will sit stiU when the board is moved and that acceptable planarity offsets among the leads will stiU result in an acceptable solder joint. Parts placement may be done manually for prototype or low-volume operations, although the author suggests the use of guided X-Y tables with vacuum part pickup for even the smallest operation. Manual placement of SMDs does not lend itself to repeatable work. For medium- and high-volume work, a multitude of machines are available. See Fig. 11.27 for the four general categories of automated placement equipment. 

Both hollow pyramids and corrugated pyramids are thoroughly documented and fairly well understood. Such structures are consistent with the notion that successive layers of folded chains do not fold at the same place, but offset this fold stepwise to generate the pyramid face. The polymer chains are perpendicular to the planar faces of the pyramid and are therefore tilted at an angle relative to the base of the pyramid. 

A variety of transmission line structures can be fabricated in planar layers of conductor and dielectric (Figure 9). The stripline and offset stripline are best suited for multilayer structures. The effect of the cyclopropene double bond on acidity of the allylic (C3-H) protons is striking in comparison to the situation for the vinyl (Cj-H) protons. As the data in Table 1 reveal, cyclopropene is at least 10 pX units less acidic than cyclopropane. On classical grounds, resonance stabilization of the cyclopropenyl anion (D31, structure. Scheme 1) should provide an acid-strengthening effect however, increased ring strain associated with planarization of the final ring carbon could offset this stabilization.
