Pittsburgh Coke and Chemical

Bryan BG, Hoppe JA. Status of the Shanghai Coking and Chemical Company s U-gas coal gasification plant. Proceedings of the Fifteenth Annual International Pittsburgh Coal Conference, Pittsburgh (CD-ROM), 1998. [Pg.423]

Developed and jointly licensed by Shell Oil Company and Dow Chemical Company. Introduced in 1987 by 1996, more than 20 units were operating and 10 were in design or under construction. The first application in coke making, in a plant near Pittsburgh, PA, was announced in 1996. [Pg.258]

In 1926, the First International Conference on Bituminous Coal (ICBC) was held in Pittsburgh, PA, at the midpoint of a three-decade-long period when coal represented a commodity of immense industrial importance and an object of intense scientific interest. At that time coal was the primary fuel of industry and the source of coke for steel manufacture and of many of the chemicals upon which a great new chemical industry rested. Gasification of coal still provided most of the town gas used for many domestic and commercial purposes. Efforts to convert coal to liquid fuels used the latest advances in high-pressure technology and led to the development of metal sulfide catalysts that are still mainstays in modem petroleum refining. [Pg.7]

Reactivity of petroleum coke, like all solid fuels, is a function of chemical structure. Recognizing that the vast majority of all petroleum coke is produced in delayed cokers, analysis focuses upon delayed petroleum coke. Reactivity measures used here include maximum volatile yield and both devolatilization and char oxidation kinetics. Black Thunder Powder River Basin (PRB) subbituminous coal and Pittsburgh 8 bituminous coal are shown, for comparison, as reference fuels. [Pg.35]
