Piscicides

Piscicides. The two piscicides, antimycin and rotenone, are both used in ponds to control nuisance fish. Antimycin is used selectively to remove scaled fishes from catfish ponds, and rotenone is used as a general fish toxicant (9,10). Recent observations by catfish farmers indicate that antimycin at low concentrations also acts as a therapeutant against external parasites.

The insecticide and piscicide Toxaphene is a mixture of almost 200 chlorinated camphene compounds including many chlorobomanes and chlorobomenes.

A new elegant stereoselective synthesis of humulene (192) has been achieved by a route (Scheme 22) in which the 11-membered-ring framework [cf. (191)] is produced by cyclization of the 11-allylpalladium complex derived from intermediate (190). In contrast to the almost ubiquitous occurrence of the flavonoids in higher plants, the isoflavonoids have a very limited taxonomic distribution. They are in general confined to one group of plants - the sub-family Lotoideae of the Leguminosae [390, 391 ].
