Pipes metallurgy

Approximately 200 large enterprises are operating in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, pipe and rolling industry. These include the world largest complexes for the production of cast iron, steel, rolled stock and pipes in Dniepropetrovsk, Zaporozhje, Donetsk, Makeevka, Mariupol and other cities.

In the sulfide stress cracking region, appropriate metallurgy is required in line piping, pressure vessels, etc. There is a listing of acceptable steels in the NACE standard. Steels with a hardness of less than 22 Rockwell C hardness should be used in areas where sulfide-stress cracking is a problem. 

Most refrigeration plants use freon as the refrigerant anti limit the lowest temperature to -20°F. This is because the ANSI piping codes require special metallurgy considerations below -20 F to assure ductility.

Because the Detal process eliminates the need for HF, carbon steel metallurgy can be used in vessel and piping construction. Also, the special equipment required for HF handling is no longer needed.
