This would have been due to the point of melting completion moving further downstream as speed increased. The same effect was found by Boes [1] for blow moulded parisons containing 0.8% masterbatch. Boes also found that the movement of melting completion towards the screw tip also caused a greater colour development in the outer zones of the parison.

Mixing pins and slots in the screw flights will improve axial mixing because they achieve a short-term splitting and reorientation of the fluid. The effect of mixing pins on backmixing is illustrated in Fig. 7.160. 

There are many possible arrangements of which two for pins are shown in Figures 8.13 and 8.14. To some extent, the same limitations apply to both pin and slot mixers and probably to most of the numerous obstruction-flow-around mixers which have been devised. 

Check the seal rotary unit and make sure the drive pins and spring pins are free in the pin holes or slots. 

V P Scientific of San Diego, CA now offers a range of adapters, print heads, and slotted pins that can be used with the major commercially available liquid handling robots (Figure 4.12). These print heads can also be transformed into manual gridding devices if only a few microarrays are needed and where the cost of a robotic system is not warranted.

If a hacksaw is used, extend the length of the mount pins and install five blades on the frame. This should cut the correct width slot in one pass. Hacksaw blades are. 5" high, so epoxy a. 0625" wide strip along the side of the top edge to limit the depth of the cut to. 4375", If a miter box is available, set angle to 87 ... 

In a small shop where ther e was no milling maehme, this jig was used in. a lathe to slot the ends of a number of steel pins. It is a piece of round steel having four equally spaced slots cut to a depth equal to a little more than one-half the length of the pins, and just wide enough to take...

Splitting and reorientation is critical to achieving efficient distributive mixing, because mixing can improve exponentially by splitting and reorientation. Distributive mixers can be divided into some main groups cavity mixers, pin mixers, slotted flight mixers, variable channel depth mixers, and variable channel width mixers. 

Bar ends—Bar-end designs vary (3), but all have elements in common. Slots allow movement of the bar for chain tensioning, the large holes accommodate the chain-tension pin, and the small holes allow oil passage from the engine to the chain. Make sure the bar you select has the proper mounting configuration for your saw. 

However, the deep flighted screw improved considerably at 80 and 100 rpm to a similar value to the pin mixer. The steeper lines for the plain and slotted screws were attributed to their positive pressure build-up. 

Vane wear must be monitored in order to schedule replacement before the vanes become too short and wear the rotor slots. If the vanes are permitted to become too worn on the sides or too short, the vane may break and wedge between the rotor and the cylinder wall at the point of eccentricity, possibly breaking the cylinder. Shear pin couplings or equivalent torque limiting couplings are sometimes used to prevent damage from a broken vane under sudden stall conditions.
