The specimen grip system was 100 mesh stainless steel screen wrapped around 2.5 cm of each end before clamping between two stainless steel plates (0.6 cm thick) cross-serrated with 10 lines/cm. After assembly in an alignment jig, three pairs of 10-32 screws, torqued to 2.3 to 4.5 N-m (20 to 40 in-lbs), were used to clamp the grip onto the specimen. This procedure is used to separate crystallized product from solvent or to remove crap and solids from a liquid. Figure 8 shows the proper apparatus to use. The collecting flask is called a side arm flask and to that extended nipple (tee heel) is attached a vacuum source. The thing that is shoved through the rubber stopper is called a Buchner funnel and is usually made of white porcelain or, preferably, PP. When the mold is opened, the part should be easily removable. Cavities are made with a slight taper to reduce frictional drag of the part on the mold. The half of the mold attached to the movable platen is equipped with ejector pins, which push the part out of the cavity while the mold is being opened. When the mold is closed, the pins are flush with the cavity surface. Release agents or lubricants facilitate ejection and shorten the mol ding cycle. Some complex parts require that the mold open in several directions in addition to the direction of the platen movement. For a threaded part, eg, a bottle cap, part of the mold must be rotated to remove the article from the mold. [Pg.142]

To use this device, the blasting cap may be inserted directly into the explosive or it may be connected to the explosive with primacord. In either case the firing device should be securely attached to a solid object. Run the trip wire from a fixed location to the cotter pin, leaving some slack in the line. So, if you can access the gates of the Fets, try putting in small resistors in series with them.
