Schweins-gummi, n. hog gum. -haut, /. hog-skin, pigskin, -leder, n. hogskin, pigskin (leather). [Pg.402]

A schematic of the INSIGHT screening tool is shown in Figure 4A. The INSIGHT screen consists of two polycarbonate or Teflon plates, each 12.7 mm thick (84). The top plate consists of a square matrix of 100 wells (each 3 mm in diameter). The bottom plate contains a symmetric matrix of 100 wells. The wells in the top plate act as the donors, and the wells in the bottom plate act as the receiver chambers in a FDC. Screening of formulations is performed using pigskin as a model. The skin is sandwiched between the donor and receiver plates. The SC is exposed to the test formulations in the donor. The receiver wells are filled with phosphate buffered... [Pg.259]

Materials. The zeolites used were X and 2.62 Y. These were compacted in a 13-mm diameter KBr press in the ratio of 3 1 zeolite to emulsion polymer polystyrene by weight. The resulting disk was about 0.35 mm thick. 14C-labeled salicylic acid was supplied by the Radiochemical Center, Amersham. The pigskin used was from the relatively hair-free stomach region of freshly killed pigs, and the human skin was undiseased stomach skin of post-mortem origin. [Pg.308]

Zeolite-polystyrene disks seem to offer reasonable models for comparison in general, and are mechanically stable and reusable. There seem to be special similarities between zeolite X disks and pigskin dermis and between zeolite Y disks and human dermis. The use of these models is being extended to investigate the use of vehicles in drug transport. These are compounds which increase the rate of drug transport through... [Pg.309]

Proteins. Crystalline lysozyme, bovine serum albumin, ribonucle-ase,and pepsin were obtained from the Armour Laboratories and crystalline /3-lactoglobulin was prepared from skimmed milk. a-Lactalbu-min was obtained from W. G. Gordon of this laboratory. Crystalline ovalbumin and human serum albumin were obtained from Nutritional Biochemical Corp. and purified pigskin gelatin from the Eastman Kodak Co. [Pg.78]

Valuable early books look well bound in tawed pigskin, which is certain to be durable. It is not a cheap leather, but the skins are very large, so covers can be cut out very economically. [Pg.28]

This seems almost right, but most footballs are not made from pigskin any longer like everything else, they are made from plastic. [Pg.8]

Different types of gelatine cannot be mixed as they have different isoelectric points and these different types are referred to by their origin and the agent used for hydrolysis, e.g. acid pigskin gelatine. Limed ossein gelatine is normally produced from cattle bones. [Pg.41]
