Various pigment applications can be affected by this legislation and a pigment supplier should consider the following requirements ... 

Test the Plan. Step 1 of the corrective action plan appeared to be the most difficult to achieve. Not all concentrate lots exhibited positive and negative Da values. The team quickly abandoned this approach, favoring the reduced concentrate A Da solution. The concentrate manufacture quickly contacted the pigment supplier requesting negative Da lots of color to correct the most recent positive Da material. 

Their concentrate supplier s demand on the pigment manufacturer caused the pigment supplier to review sampling, testing, and process techniques. The pigment manufacturer in turn discovered that one raw material component was causing the hue shift. That raw material producer in turn reviewed its manufacturing capability and developed a corrective action plan. 

Much of the building of coating technology had been done by the pigment makers, but once established as the producers of a stable commodity, titanium pigment suppliers discontinued both application... 

Thus, with adjustments to size, size distribution, and shape, aluminum pigments can be used to create various kinds of "sparkle" effects. Pigment supplier Silberline categorizes five different kinds of aluminum flake effects [9-15] ... 

Pound-per-pound, diarylide yellows cannot be out-performed for value in use. They are used in low temperature olefin and PVC application. Caution is required in plasticized PVC as migration is possible. The amine DCB is suspected to release at temperatures above 200°C in polyolefins. This is an area where discussion with your pigment supplier is recommended. 

P.O. 69, P.R. 260 and P.Br. 38 all disappeared from the market for technical and economic reasons. Only P.Y. 139 and P.Y. 185 are commercially available today, from several pigment suppliers (Table 14-2). 

Pigment suppliers typically provide chips of mass tone and tint colors (with two or three different levels of reduction in their technical bulletins. 

Within the pigments industry itself, there has been a growing realisation that the physical state of pigments is of the greatest importance to pigment users. Most suppliers now offer several products based on the same chemical structure and the physical form in which it is supplied is chosen to suit the intended application. Specialty chemicals are formulations of chemicals containing one or more fine chemicals as active ingredients. They are identified according to performance properties. Customers are trades outside the chemical industry and the public. Specialty chemicals are usually sold under brand names. Suppliers have to provide product information. Subcategories are adhesives, agrochemicals, biocides, catalysts, dyestuffs and pigments, enzymes, electronic chemicals, flavors and fragrances, food and feed additives, pharmaceuticals, and specialty polymers (see Chapter 11). 

U.S. production of titanium dioxide in 1993 was 1.16 x 106 t, an increase of about 2.2% over 1992 (15). The annual production increased on an average of 5.4% in the 1980s (16). There are approximately 50 wodd producers of titanium dioxide pigments. The wodd s leading suppliers are Du Pont ( 24% woddwide share), Tioxide (the U.K. Co. owned by ICI), and SCM Corp. Other producers include Kerr McGee, Tiwest, Kemira Oy, Kronos, and Bayer AG (see Titanium compounds, inorganic).
