There are many different powered vehicles for materials handling. The term industrial track covers many of them. The most common industrial track is a forklift track, fitted with two forks or tines. Some have other devices beside forks for special lifting tasks. For example, some have a single, long fork for lifting carpet rolls and similar rolled material. Some have a clamp device to pick up rolls of paper that normally rest on the end of a roll. [Pg.202]

In the basic system of Fig. 45, the glue will rise on the roll if it wets and adheres to the roll. In order to have this, the glue should not be too fluid because it would then immediately run down and there would not be enough glue on the roll. It should also not be too thick because the pick up roll would pick too much glue and the machine would get dirty very quickly. Therefore, the adapted viscosities should be between 1000 and 30,000 mPas. When the adhesive is fluid, the coating system may be reduced to one roll only, and the excess will run down. Doctor roll. The gap between the pick up roll and the coating roll is adjustable and this determines the adhesive add-on. It is possible to apply thick adhesives up to 50,000 mPas and control accurately the adhesive thickness which may vary from 10 to 150 g/m. This system allows also to apply fluid adhesives at very high speed and low add-on (2 to 50 g/m ) (Fig. 40 and 48). The doctor roll reduces foaming because it squeezes the foam bubbles which could result from the agitation of the adhesive. Doctor rolls are always used in sophisticated roll coaters, when an accurate add-on is required and for high speeds. [Pg.117]

In the manufacture of gummed tape, large rolls of paper are fed through a glue applicator, where the adhesive at a temperature of 140-145°F is applied by the use of pick-up rolls. As the machine speed has continuously has increased the dynamic forces to the web have increased and it has forced to support the web with felts to avoid web breaks. Before 30 s typically the web had open draw between press and wire section which was soon replaced with pick-up suction roll arrangement. In this arrangement web is picked up with a suction roll from wire and supported by press felt to the first nip. The use of vinyl eraser crumbs may be viable for the removal of some surface soils. However, the amount of pressure used and the direction the eraser crumbs are rolled are critical. When exposing the film it is important to leave two blank exposures at the beginning, and two more at the end. This means that a 24-exposure roll will yield 20 exposures. After the 20 exposures have been made, be careful not to rewind the film leader into the cassette. If your camera automatically rewinds the film, try taping the leader to the take-up spool when loading the camera. This may not work on all cameras, but give it a try.
