Physical adsorption research

The US DOE requested another 10% raise in its 2002 budget for sequestration R D to over US 20 million annually. The key areas for research include Absorption (chemical and physical) Adsorption (physical and chemical) Low-temperature distillation Gas separation membranes Mineralization and biomineralisation. [Pg.192]

A great deal of research has been focused on the evaluation of plasma polymers and plasma treated materials for blood and soft tissue contacting-applications (2,3). A number of studies have involved the physical adsorption or covalent attachment of a variety of biomolecules to various gas plasma-treated polymer surfaces (4,5). In such studies, however, the covalent immobilization is often assumed to take place through precursor groups formed at the biomaterial surface from ill-defined oxygen and nitrogen functionalities obtained directly from the plasma. [Pg.91]

Dr LI. Dana, Linde Vice President, hired me and put me to work on air separation. He and Dr. J.M. Gaines, Director of Research, asked me to work on physical adsorption and strongly supported the molecular sieve project at all times. Dr. Dana made the decision to test market and set the initial prices. [Pg.8]

Kemball kept an active interest in physical adsorption for several years, but a defining change came in 1946 with the award of a fellowship from the Commonwealth Fund of New York for research and travel in the United States. Influenced by Eric Rideal s long-standing friendship with Hugh S. Taylor, who had known Rideal since World War I when they worked together in London on the catalysis of carbon monoxide oxidation, Charles chose to spend his fellowship year with Professor Taylor at Princeton University. Here he was introduced to experimental work on catalysis and. [Pg.573]

Langmuir covers the broad area of surface and colloid chemistry. Topics include micelles, emulsions, surfactants, vesicles, wetting and interfacial films, chemisorption and catalysis, electrochemistry, and physical adsorption on liquid and solid surfaces. Original research articles and letters arc accepted. There are occasional invited review tvpe articles. The journal is intended to provide a comprehensive coverage of the field of chemistry at interfaces. [Pg.208]

A promising line of LEED research has been opened up by Lander and Morrison 79, 313, 391, 392) with cryogenic studies of physical adsorption and of weak chemisorption. In exploratory work with a... [Pg.242]

Microporous materials have been proved to have the potential application in gas storage and separation by physical adsorption during last decades [46]. Such application is usually based on the presence of a large permanent surface area, suitable pore size distribution, and suitable enthalpy of adsorption between micropore and gas molecules of porous sorbents. Recent research revealed that microporous materials are considered as potential carbon capture media due to their relatively weak physical interaction with carbon dioxide, which renders the recovery of the gas and recycling of the sorbent less energy... [Pg.117]

Many researchers [124-128] recognized the role of the micropore size distribution (MPSD) in the study of adsorption equilibria on activated carbon, The MPSD model [126] is based on the idea that adsorption energy heterogeneity is induced by structural heterogeneity, which can be characterized by the size distribution of the slit-shaped micropores. The MPSD is an intrinsic property of activated carbon, and in physical adsorption it dictates the adsorption equilibria through the dispersive interaction between adsorbate and the microporous network of activated carbon. [Pg.436]

Incoiporation of metal precursors into carbon aerogel is traced back to incorporation of metal salts into RF solution before the sol-gel process. Simple physical adsorption of metal salts on wet gel matrices caused leaching of the metal ions during washings required by the sol-gel process. This resorted researchers to use derivatives of resorcinol (e.g.,... [Pg.230]
