Materials. The radical-type photopolymerizable formulation consisted of a mixture of hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA from UCB) and a polyurethane-diacrylate (Actilane 20 from Arkros). Naphthalate polyester articles can be coated with polymerizable and crosslinkable compositions. The composition is made from the matrix and a large amount of benzotriazole derivatives. This class of compounds absorbs UV light. The cured compositions help protect the naphthalate polyester from UV exposure and other weathering effects [78]. Photopolymerizable epoxies using onium salt photoinitiators also show considerable promise for use in high performance composite applications. Traditional thermally cured epoxy resins are already well entrenched in these applications however, the use of the recently developed photocurable epoxy materials offers considerable potential for rapid fabrication of fiber-reinforced composites without the need for cumbersome ovens and long cure times.
