Instant photographs are widely used for identification purposes, for example, for drivers Hcenses, student identification cards, and credit cards that can be issued immediately. Most passport photographs generated in the United States are instant color prints. Industrial and business appHcations include photographs of record for insurance purposes, constmction documentation, and real estate photography. 

Henrietta Leavitt, Harvard College Observatory, 1912, established the relation period-luminosity of Cepheid variable stars. Being a woman i.e. confined to the tedious and ridiculously paid work of examining photographic plates for the benefit of an all-male establishment, she would not be awarded credit for her milestone discovery...
