PPS resins must compete with PEI and phenolics. There are two domestic manufacturers of poly(phenylene sulfide) Phillips and Fortron Industries. Worldwide there is currently large overcapacity (Table 15). Four Japanese companies, ie, Toso Susteel, a joint venture of Toso/Hodogaya Chemical Toray Toprene, a joint venture of Toto Kasei/Toren Petrochemical and Kureha Chemical have a combined capacity of 82,500 t. U.S. agents sell their materials in the U.S. markets General Electric sells for Toso Susteel Soltex Polymer, part of Solvay, Belgium, sells for Toprene Hoechst-Celanese sells for Kureha. Prices for PPS resins and compounds range from 8.80/kg for unreinforced resin to 3.30/kg for 65% filled resins. [Pg.274]

It is of interest to compare the tertiary structure of AspAT with that of other PLP-dependent enzymes. Some PLP enzymes whose primary structures are quite different from AspAT exhibit similar tertiary structures. Such enzymes are a>-amino acid pyruvate aminotransferase,341 phosphoserine aminotransferase351 and tyrosine-phenol lyase361 (Phillips, R., personal communication). Similarity in tertiary structure among these PLP enzymes may lead to the idea that many PLP-dependent enzymes share the same ancestor protein. There are PLP enzymes belonging to its own category, such as glycogen phosphorylase and tryptophan synthase.37 381 These enzymes do not share any similarities in either primary or tertiary structures with AspAT. [Pg.94]

Another attempt to relate the results from the use of a solvatochromic probe (Phenol Blue (66)) to the inherent properties of solvent mixtures was made by Phillips and Brennecke122. They obtained the interaction energies (required for the application of the non-random two-liquid (NRTL) approach) of 66 with each of the solvent components from its solubility in the neat solvent. The mixtures studied contained cyclohexane as one component and acetone, triethylamine, ethyl butyrate, cyclohexanone, toluene and acetophenone as the other. Then the local compositions deduced from the solvatochromism of 66 were compared with those calculated by the NRTL equation and reasonable agreement was found. [Pg.394]

Light-induced weathering of petroleum films can also lead to major changes in the types of organic compounds present. These reactions have been reviewed by Payne and Phillips (1985). Some hydrocarbons are readily converted by light and air to much more soluble oxygen-containing species such as phenols, ketones, acids, and hydroperoxides (Larson et al., 1979 see also Section 6.D.3e). [Pg.50]

From these compounds, there is a predominance of phenols and furans, and in a smaller proportion have been carboxylic acids, ketones, aldehydes, and alcohols. Others works of the literature discussed the hydrodeoxygenation catalytic in other raw materials (Choudhary and Phillips 2011 Mercader et al., 2011). [Pg.610]
