The enzyme has been purified from Neurospora (Lyon and Garrett, 1978) and was investigated in cell-fiw extracts from Chlamydomonas (Perez-Vicente et al, 1988) and pea leaves (Nguyen and Feierabend, 1978). The leaf enzyme had considerable activity with NADP+ as well as NAD, but little activity with oxygen (xanthine oxidase activity). The XDH has been purified 200-fold from nodules of Phaseolus vulgaris (Boland, 1981) and Glycine max (Triplett et al, 1982 Boland et al, 1983).
