Pesticide signal word

Discard coveralls and other absorbent materials that are heavily contaminated with undiluted pesticide having a DANGER or WARNING signal word. [Pg.52]

Usually, the label will not give specific information on the pesticide s toxicity to humans. It must, however, indicate the pesticide s relative toxicity. It does so by using signal words that are established by law that identify the toxicity category to which the product is assigned. Signal words must appear in large letters on the label s front panel. [Pg.58]

The statements that immediately follow the signal word, either on the front or side of the pesticide label, indicate which route or routes of entry into the body (mouth, skin, lungs, eyes) you must particularly protect. Many pesticide products are hazardous by more than one route, so study these statements carefully. DANGER-POISON followed by "May be fatal if swallowed or inhaled" gives a far different warning than "DANGER CORROSIVE—causes eye damage and severe skin bums."... [Pg.59]

All pesticide labels must contain "signal words in bold print, to attraa the attention of the buyer/user of the product." The use of these signal words is mandated by EPA regulations. [Pg.135]

All pesticide products meeting the criteria of toxicity category II shall bear on the front panel the signal word WARNING. [Pg.135]

Table 5.2 and Figure 5.3 and 5.4 describes how the signal words can be used to select the appropriate PPE for various pesticide formulations. [Pg.135]

The only member of this group of pesticides with fungicidal activity is anilazine. The manufacturer (Miles, Inc.) has canceled all uses in the U.S. Labelling requires the signal word Warning. ... [Pg.195]

Fabric coveralls are designed to be cleaned after each day s use and reused. However, absorbent materials such as cotton, polyester, cotton blends, denim, and canvas cannot be cleaned adequately after they are drenched or thoroughly contaminated with concentrated pesticides labeled with the signal word "DANGER" or "WARNING". Always discard any such clothing or footwear. They cannot be safely reused. [Pg.256]

In addition to its use in pictograms, colour can be used on other areas of the label to implement special labelling requirements such as the use of the pesticide bands in the FAO Labelling Guide, for signal words and hazard statements or as background to them, or as otherwise provided for by the competent authority. [Pg.32]

Chloropicrin is a class I toxicity, restricted use pesticide (RUP), labeled with the signal word Danger . The only exposure guidelines available for chloropicrin are that of permissible exposure level and threshold limit value, both having a value of 0.1 ppm. It has an inhalation reference exposure level of 0.4 pg m... [Pg.573]

Human Hazard Signal Word (162.10(hXl)(i))—The signal word DANGER has been designated by EPA as the word which must appear on the labels of all pesticide products which meet the criteria of Toxicity Category I. Furthermore, if a product meets those criteria due to its oral, dermal, or inhalation... [Pg.288]

If a pesticide use is classified as restricted, the statement Restricted Use Pesticide must appear on the front panel of the label, set in type of the same minimum size as that required for the human hazard signal words, see Table... [Pg.293]

What are the three signal words associated with pesticide labels ... [Pg.336]

Pesticide labels must Include directions for use, precautionary statements, EPA product registration and establishment numbers, a signal word such as "Caution, Warning, or Danger," and an active ingredient statement, a net contents statement, the name and address of the manufacturer and if it has been classified as a restricted use pesticide it must state "Restricted Use Pesticide" (44). There are approximately 45 pesticides presently classified as "Restricted Use Pesticides" ( ). The 80 20 formulations are not classified as restricted use at this time but are proposed for such classification (45). Since 80 20 formulations are not "Restricted Use Pesticides" they may be purchased and used by anyone. Both federal and state laws require pesticide use to be consistent with labeling and violations are punishable by fines and(or) impri-sonment (44). [Pg.227]
