Typical recipes for formulations can be found in the technical sections of trade publications, such as Soap, Cosmetics and Chemical Specialties, Cosmetics and Toiletries, Household Personal Products Industry, and Seifen, Ole, Fette und Wachse. Surfactant vendors also will provide examples of formulations containing their products. These are available on the Internet at this writing, many can be accessed through Paul Huibers s site, http //surfactants.net/. Vendor formulations are periodically compiled in summary volumes, usually without critical evaluation (18,19). While the patent literature contains many examples of formulations, this is a less valuable reference because of the large number of patents which have never been commercialized. Other volumes of the Surfactant Science Series are valuable references (20-22). It is often helpful to read information developed for formulators in order to gain persjjective on what components can be expected for functional reasons (4). [Pg.604]
