Perchloroethylene tetrachloroethylene

Percha,/., -gummi, m. n. gutta-percha. Perchlor-athan, n. perchloroethane, hexaehloro-ethane. -athylen, n. perchloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene. -methan, n. perehloro-methane (carbon tetrachloride). 

Perchloroethylene (tetrachloroethylene) is a nonflammable solvent of low toxicity that dissolves and removes H blister and V nerve agents but does not neutralize them. NIOSH has recommended that this substance be treated as a potential human carcinogen. It does not work with G nerve agents.

Trichloroethane and trichloroethylene are widely used solvents found as ingredients in many products, including typewriter correction fluid ( white-ouf), color film cleaners, insecticides, spot removers, fabric cleaning solutions, adhesives, and paint removers. They are used extensively in industry as degreasers. Trichloroethane is available in two isomeric forms, 1,1,2- and 1,1,1-, with the latter (also known as methyl chloroform) being the most common. Perchloroethylene (tetrachloroethylene) is another related solvent used widely in the dry cleaning industry. 

Perchloroethylene (tetrachloroethylene), trichloroethylene, methylene chloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, carbon tetrachloride, and chlorinated fluorocarbons. Activated carbon containing n-propyl bromide need not be shipped as a hazardous waste — because is it not a Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP).
