Perchloroethylene physical properties

Perchloroethylene is a clear, dense, non-flammable volatile chlorinated solvent. It is widely used for dry cleaning small quantities are used in adhesives and cleaning agents. It is miscible with organic solvents but only slightly soluble in water. Relevant physical properties are given in Table 5.50. [Pg.139]

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES white to light yellow, needle-like, crystalline solid sweet odor insoluble in water readily soluble in hot alcohol, but slightly soluble in cold alcohol very soluble in ether soluble in chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, acetone, mineral spirits, turpentine, glacial acetic acid, pine oil, and perchloroethylene MP(113-114°C, 235.4-237.2°F) BP(340 C, 644 F at 760 mmHg, 223.7-224.1°C, 434.7-435.4 F at 30 mmHg) DN(1.203 g/cm at 25 C) VD(not applicable) VP(unknown). [Pg.783]

Worker safety issues are important when handling any organic solvent. Written procedures that follow the MSDS guidelines are recommended for all workers who handle any of the halogenated solvents. Workers must remember that some of the halogenated solvents have flash points as listed in the physical property tables. All of the solvents except perchloroethylene have a limited... [Pg.229]

The technology primarily treats clays because their physical and chemical properties, such as external and internal active surfaces produced by their fine crystalline structure, make them difficult to decontaminate. ARC asserts that pilot studies showed that the technology works well on perchloroethylene (PCE), xylene, phenols, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). [Pg.362]
