2-Pentanol, naming

Mixtures of isomeric amyl alcohols (1-pentanol and 2-methyl-1-butanol) are often preferred because the different degree of branching imparts a more desirable combination of properties they are also less expensive to produce commercially. One such mixture is a commercial product sold under the name Primary Amyl Alcohol by Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Company Inc. [Pg.370]

The following alkyl bromide can be prepared by reaction of the alcoho (S)-2-pentanol with PB13- Name the compound, assign (R) or (S) stereochemistry and tell whether the reaction of the alcohol occurs with retention of the same stereochemistry or with a change in stereochemistry (reddish brown = Br). [Pg.355]

Thus, the name of 1 is methyl 4-oxopentanoate and the name of 2 is 5-amino-2-pentanol. Further examples are shown ... [Pg.1228]

If there is no functional group in the compound, then we put an e at the end of the name pentanol pentane... [Pg.86]

In order to explore the possibility of tuning product stereochemistry by changing the experimental conditions, we carried out the reaction using different secondary alcohols as donor, namely di-isopropyl-carbinol (2,4-dimethyl-2-pentanol), 2-octanol, 3-octanol and cyclohexanol. [Pg.296]

The name of the compound is (/ )-2-bromopentane. Reaction of (5)-2-pentanol with PBr3 to form (R)-2-bromopentane occurs with a change in stereochemistry because the configuration at the chirality center changes from S to R. [Pg.221]

The earliest applications of acoustic levitation in analytical chemistry were concerned with the development of various steps of the analytical process. Thus, Welter and Neidhart [72] studied the preconcentration of n-hexanol in methanol by solvent evaporation and the liquid-liquid extraction of n-hexanol from water to toluene in a levitated droplet, which they found to be efficient when using GC-FID with n-pentanol as internal standard. Solvent exchange of fluorescein from methylisobutyl ketone to aqueous sodium hydroxide was also accomplished. Sample concentration in an acoustically levitated droplet prior to injection into a CE equipped with an LIF or UV detector has also been accomplished [73,118]. The target analytes (namely, dansylated amino acids) were concentrated in the levitated drop and a limit of detection of 15 nM — much lower than the 2.5 pM achieved by hydrodynamic injection without preconcentration — was achieved following CE separation and quantification. For this purpose, 36000 sample droplets 2.3 pi in volume each were sequentially positioned in the acoustic Ievitator and evaporated. This example illustrates the potential of acoustic levitation for coupling to any type of detector for micro- or nanotrace analyses. [Pg.278]

Butyl carbinol(n), at the bottom of Fig. 14, has an index number of 404. If you re familiar with the carbinol naming scheme for alcohols, it isn t much to translate that to 1-pentanol. The entry still comes before the B s because Amyl alcohol(n) is another common name for 1-pentanol. On the page where 1-pentanol would show up, there s only a gloss entry 1-... [Pg.35]
