Pedestal

The housing physically holds the valve pieces together by means of a mechanical lock (crimp) and fits into the pedestal of the mounting cup. It is made from any of a number of common thermoplastics and contains the metering orifices for both the Hquid and vapor phases of the effluent. Many... [Pg.349]

Figure 7 shows nozzle locations and support arrangements for a typical horizontal vessel (7). The saddles used for support are sustained by concrete pedestals or steel stmctures. Sufficient clearance between the bottom nozzles and the support saddles needs to be provided for access to the nozzle flange bolts. The manway can be located on the end head of the vessel, the topside of the vessel, or the side of the vessel. The preference is for an end manway wherever possible for accessibiHty, except when it is limited by the level gauges and controls that are commonly mounted off the heads. [Pg.75]

Drape can be measured by placing a circular fabric specimen over a round table or pedestal and viewing from direcdy overhead. A drape coefficient is defined as the ratio of the area of the fabric s actual shadow to the area of the shadow if the fabric were rigid. Drape is closely related to stiffness the drape coefficient for a stiff fabric approaches a value of 1 a limp fabric has a drape coefficient near 0. The Cusick drape tester is an example of this type of measurement. Eor this method, the relative weights of paper rings representing tracings of the fabric s shadows are used to calculate drape coefficient. [Pg.462]

The causes of vibration have already been discussed. An increase in vibration over a period of time is generally caused by loss of ahgn-ment, setthng of the foundation, or sticking of some expansion feature such as a pipe or a pedestal. Other causes are wear in the teeth of a flexible couphng, an internal rub in the unit, loss of bearing oil, and bearing wear. (Startup vibration is discussed later under temperature bow.)... [Pg.2505]

In the ease where the turbine and supports have a minimal eross seetion, then the ability to inerease the stiffness of these pedestals is minimized. Consequently, the objeetive is to eoneentrate on inereasing the mass of the pedestals. This inerease is aeeomplished by filling the eavities with a speeial mortar prepared with epoxy and steel shot. The density of this speeial mortar ean be in exeess of 300 pounds per eubie foot. To injeet this speeial mortar, a pipe has been installed in the aeeess hole that was drilled in the side of the pedestal near the top. These same teehniques ean be employed to stabilize the foundations under mueh smaller equipment. [Pg.766]

The weight of a vessel is made up of the weight of the shell, the weight of the heads, and the weight of internals, nozzles, pedestals, and skirts. The last two terms are defined in Figure 12-3. [Pg.335]

The weight of pedestals for a horizontal vessel can be estimated as 10% of the total weight of the vessel. [Pg.340]

Centrifugal pumps require a rigid foundation that prevents torsional or linear movement of the pump and its baseplate. In most cases, this type of pump is mounted on a concrete pad or pedestal having enough mass to securely support the baseplate, pump and its driver. The following general mles apply to foundation design. [Pg.520]
