Pedestal grinders

These machines may be mounted on a bench, when they are often referred to as bench grinders (Fig. 7.16), or on a floor-mounted pedestal and referred to as pedestal grinders. Bench grinders should be securely anchored to a stout bench and pedestal grinders should be heavily built and securely bolted on good foundations. 

The wheel enclosure angles for a bench or pedestal grinder are shown in Fig. 7.17. 

OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.243 addresses portable abrasive wheels and 29 CER 1910.215 covers fixed abrasive wheel grinders. The abrasive wheel grinder remains one of the most common pieces of machinery used in healthcare maintenance. Exhaust hoods for floor stands, pedestals, and bench grinders shall be designed in accordance with OSHA standards.
