Pearl bodies

The Gnostics termed the solar, or rainbow body, the robe of glory — robe meaning a vesture or sheath for the spirit. The poet Bardesanes wrote The Hymn of the Robe of Glory, which tells of the soul s descent into matter and its ultimate re-ascent. The pearl mentioned at the end of the poem, is the pearl of Great Price, the Philosopher s Stone ...

A less objectionable preparation would be a mixture of native sulphate of baryta and prepared chalk—precipitated carbonate of lime, These latter two, while being as white as the former, are not, like it, discolored by the sulphur fumes in the atmosphere, nor SO particularly injurious to the. skin. ...

Pearls are growths that form inside the shells of mollusks, usually in response to the presence of a parasite or other irritant. They are composed of layers of nacre that the animal secretes over the foreign body. Pearls tend to be the same color as the nacre inside the shell. Sometimes pearls are loose, forming in the mantle cavity, and sometimes they become attached to the inside of the shell. These latter pearls are called blisters and may contain rotten organic matter or a smaller, loose pearl. 

Cultured pearl one that is artificially induced by the placement of a foreign body within a mollusk, usually an oyster. 

A pearl is a concretion produced by a mollusc. There are a number of theories as to why a pearl forms, but it seems evident that it is, at least in part, as a reaction to some type of intruder or foreign body in the shell. 

The vast majority of pearl producing molluscs belong to the group called bivalves (see also Chapter 10, Shell ), which have two shells, hinged together, that can open and close as the animal feeds. Inside the shell is the soft body of the mollusc. It has no head, and a very simple nervous system. The main part of the body is called the mantle, which covers all the organs, and which secretes the shell. 

In cosmetics, ethylene glycol palmitostearate is used as a fatty body for lipsticks, as a pearling agent in opalescent and cream shampoos, and as an additive for tanning lubricants. 

Snails are slow-moving mollusks whose bodies are protected by spiral shells, many of which can be closed with a thin, pale operculum. Members of one type, the turban shell snails, each have a thick, dark-colored operculum that resembles a flattened pearl. The black turban snail (Tegale funebralis) feeds on diatoms and algae growing on rocks. 

Barbiturates are also known to be dangerous. At Pearl Harbor, American casualties undergoing surgery were given barbiturates as general anaesthetics. However, because of a poor understanding about how barbiturates are stored in the body, many patients received sudden and fatal overdoses. In fact, it is reputed that more casualties died at the hands of the anaesthetists at Pearl Harbor than died of their wounds.

Leftovers of the Count of the River is the same as Leftover Fishes of the Count of the River, which according to an earlier passage in this section of the Nine Elixirs is a name for carp gall.

It was the Spirit of Life in the form of a white bird and.. became incarnate in Hannah s womb when the pearl went forth from Joachim s loins and. . Hannah received it, namely the body of our Lady Mary. The white pearl is mentioned for its purity, and the white bird because Mary s soul existed aforetime with the Ancient of Days. . Thus bird and pearl are alike and equal. From the Body of Mary, the pearl, the white bird of the spirit then entered into Jesus at the Baptism. ...
