Patterns of immunoglobulin gene expression during B cell ontogeny

Patterns of immunoglobulin gene expression during B cell ontogeny [Pg.154]

There is a correlation between the general demethylation of the immunoglobulin gene loci and their transcriptional activity [1,6,7,13], although clearly the de- [Pg.154]

The situation with regard to the state of the chromatin of the C5 exons is somewhat different from that of the other CH genes located 3 of C. Firstly, it is much closer to CM than are the other CM genes and secondly there are many IgM-ex-pressing B cell lines that transcribe through or into the 8 locus. Studies of different IgM-expressing B cell lymphomas and plasmacytomas indicate that the C8 locus is methylated in some lines and demethylated in others the degree of Cs methylation in different lymphomas does not, however, correlate with the extent of 8 transcription [5,17]. [Pg.155]
