Nevertheless, many anecdotes and the few analyses of the application of the precautionary principle (PP) in developing countries point to a pattern of decisions that harm the cihzens of those countries.5 The PP, which lacks any consistent definition, can be paraphrased (and usually is) by saying that where there is a threat of harm from a technology, lack of scientific knowledge shah not be used as a reason for postponing cost-effective measures to prevent harm. The authors stress that strategies are patterns of decisions, not documents. The decision patterns, not what is written in strategy reports, set the direction of the functional area or business. Therefore, the manufacturing strategy of the business is the pattern of decisions that determines manufacturing structure, infrastructure, and related capabilities.

Data of Figs 8-10 give a simple pattern of yield stress being independent of the viscosity of monodisperse polymers, indicating that yield stress is determined only by the structure of a filler. However, it turned out that if we go over from mono- to poly-disperse polymers of one row, yield stress estimated by a flow curve, changes by tens of times [7]. This result is quite unexpected and can be explained only presumably by some qualitative considerations. Since in case of both mono- and polydisperse polymers yield stress is independent of viscosity, probably, the decisive role is played by more fine effects. Here, possibly, the same qualitative differences of relaxation properties of mono- and polydisperse polymers, which are known as regards their viscosity properties [1]. 

The correct interpretation of measured process data is essential for the satisfactory execution of many computer-aided, intelligent decision support systems that modern processing plants require. In supervisory control, detection and diagnosis of faults, adaptive control, product quality control, and recovery from large operational deviations, determining the mapping from process trends to operational conditions is the pivotal task. Plant operators skilled in the extraction of real-time patterns of process data and the identification of distinguishing features in process trends, can form a mental model on the operational status and its anticipated evolution in time. 

Local interpretation methods encompass a wide variety of approaches that resolve decisions about input data relative to annotated data or known features that cluster. By characterizing the cluster or grouping, it is possible to use various measures to determine whether an arbitary pattern of data can be assigned the same label as the annotated grouping. All approaches are statistical, but they vary in terms of measures, which include statistical distance, variance, probability of occurrence, and pattern similarity.
