First inventor Patent Title Summary of main claim... [Pg.299]

This organization provides a periodic list of patent titles from 14 industrial countries. The particular search bulletin related to this book is Enzymes, and although patents are subdivided by country, they are neither limited to foods nor subdivided by subject. Titles are not translated into English. Available on a subscription basis. [Pg.29]

Patents and papers both carry titles, which should be informative but all too often are not, especially in patents. Too frequently, one finds modem patents with unjustifiably broad titles such as "Process of extracting metals from ores, "Chemical process, "Chemical composition, or "Controlling chemical reactions. As a patent title, "Chemical testing device will indicate a new and improved test tube only to the iminitiated. [Pg.201]

Specification begins with a title. Newcomers to the field of patenting would be amazed or perhaps amused at the choice of patent titles and even the language used to describe an invention. Historically, inventors kept the titles vague to keep the searchers (who then did manual searches) from finding out about their inventions. Today, as most patent offices have gone electronic, this is no long an issue, nevertheless the practice continues. [Pg.45]

If you can t find an appropriate class or classes to search, scan patent titles in some of the subject subclasses, noting those which appear relevant to the invention in question. Of which potentially relevant patents, look at the more specific subclasses assigned to the patents, and review the patents in these areas. [Pg.250]

The bibliography appears on the cover page. It presents the title, inventors, assignee, attorney, filing and issue dates, other information, and, in some cases, the Markush structure (see text below). Patent titles may or may not explicate the inventions covered, depending on the business strategy adopted by the agent or attorney responsible for the application. A title can... [Pg.124]

The Dow Chemical Company patent titled Direct Nitration of Alkylphenols with Nitric Acid recommends the use of oxidation inhibitors such as a secondary or tertiary alcohol, a secondary alkyl nitrate, an aldehyde, a ketone, or a mixture thereof. The inventors suggest that the antioxidants reduce the amounts of undesirable oxidation by-products, especially quinone, and increase the conversion to the desired nitrated product. Since the 90 to 94% purity for DNOC achieved in direct nitration was acceptable and the antioxidant additives did not appear to increase the product purity significantly, we decided not to pursue incorporation of antioxidants. [Pg.243]

When zirconium silicate (ZrSi04) or a mixture of Z1O3 and SiOj is reacted with aluminum in the presence of aluminum oxide and then rdieated, zirconium silicide (ZrSi ) becomes the major product. Titanium dioxide (TiOs) and boron (111) oxide (BgO,) with aluminum similarly form titanium boride (TiBs). If the reduction of the oxides such as TiOg or Si02 with aluminum is performed in the presence of carbon black, the carbides TiC and SiC are formed embedded in aluminum oxide. This subject is also treated in a British patent titled Autothermic Fired Ceramics. ... [Pg.249]

SciFinder includes information on both chemical patents and patent family members from 44 countries. Since 1907, Chemical Abstracts (CA) has abstracted and indexed over three million patents worldwide in all areas of chemistry and chemical engineering. Patent titles may be altered by the Chemical Abstracts Service to make them more descriptive. SciFinder is an excellent resource for article, paper, and patent searching, since both patent numbers and inventor/assignee names are searchable from 1907 to date bibliographic and abstract information for patents from major industrial countries is available within two days of publication, full indexing is completed within twenty-seven days, and patent family information is available from 1957 to date. [Pg.124]

Patent title (in CA it is often an augmented or reworded version of the original title)... [Pg.19]

In most cases the title of a patent abstract is not identical with the patent title itself because patent titles are normally very vague and general. The title of an abstract should reflect the contents of the document and therefore Chemical Abstracts Service formulates a new abstract title to describe the content more precisely. [Pg.79]
