Patent Kind Code

Document Code or Patent Kind Code This indicates what stage has been reached in the application process for that particular patent e.g. whether it is an unexamined patent or a patent application. Explanations about the application status are contained in the first issue of each Chemical Abstracts volume and in the introduction to the Patent Index of a CA volume. The patent Kind Code is individually explained for each country as its meaning can differ, e.g. Al patent application of a DE patent, Cl granted DE patent. 

Listing of a patent family Simultaneously with the German patent application, the European (and the US patent) were published. The Patent Kind Code for the European patent is Al. With collective patents, that means with European and PCT applications, the abbreviations of the countries are shown in brackets for which the patent protection is applied (Sect. 2.1.1.2, Table 3). The first patent document to be sent to the Chemical Abstracts Service is abstracted (basic patent).

The numbers in round brackets refer to another stage in the application process Meanwhile the approved patent is published and has been registered under another patent number. If the patent number has not changed in the course of the application process, only the previous Patent Kind Code is given in round brackets.

However, there are polyurethanes and isocyanurates on the market that have demonstrated their superior fire performance. Our Thermax is one such product. We developed it and patented the process. We have a team of trained specialists working with legislative and regulatory bodies to demonstrate how it complies with their codes. Other manufacturers appear to be doing the same thing. It will take this kind of education effort by our industry to prove that today s polyurethanes and isocyanurates can overcome the flammability problems of their predecessors. 

As the next syntactic device let us consider three-position descriptors, each position of which provides information of a particular kind. These pieces of information are firmly associated in one term, which creates an especially close connection between them. Such terms have proved successful in the fragment code GREMAS for chemical structures and also for the documentation of patent literature in the fields of plant protection and agriculture (see Figure 5).
