Particle tracking large particles

To analyze the individual heat transfer kinetics of droplet clusters within the spray of twin-fluid atomizers, the local correlations between the droplet concentration and the heat and flow conditions are evaluated. Numerical simulations of the spray flow analyzed in this paper have been carried out with Large-Eddy-Simulation (LES) models with Lagrangian particle tracking (discrete particle method) for the droplet motion. A synthetic perturbation generator [30] for the inflow conditions for the gas flow and simple perturbations are added to the dispersed phase to induce realistic vortex patterns at the nozzle and in the consequent spray. 

Very small particles can be collected but large ones (above 5 pm) can cause arcing across the narrow gap between collector plates. A coarse filter should first remove these large particles. Precipitators are not normally suitable for wet environments since excessive moisture can cause electrical tracking and failure. Resistance to airflow is negligible. 

Relative to Eulerian PDF codes, particle tracking and sorting on non-orthogonal grids is computationally intensive, and can represent a large fraction of the total computational cost. 

As gene carriers are internalized by endocytosis, the motion characteristics inside the cell resembles the movement of the endosomal compartments within the cell and the formed vesicles are transported along the microtubule network [38]. Suh et al. [41] quantified the transport of individual internalized polyplexes by multiple-particle tracking and showed that the intracellular transport characteristics of polyplexes depend on spatial location and time posttransfection. Within 30 min, polyplexes accumulated around the nucleus. An average of the transport modes over a 22.5 h period after transfection showed that the largest fraction of polyplexes with active transport was found in the peripheral region of the cells whereas polyplexes close to the nucleus were largely diffusive and subdiffusive. Disruption of the microtubule network by nocodazole completely inhibits active transport and also the perinuclear accumulation of polyplexes [37, 40, 47]. 

The development of the Lagrangian models has been limited mainly by the inherent need for large computing capacity to carry out statistical averaging and computation of the phase interactions. The Lagrangian models are particularly applicable to very dilute or discrete flow situations for which multifluid models are not appropriate, or to situations in which the historic tracking of particles is important (such as in pulverized coal combustion in a furnace or the tracking of radioactive particles in gas-solid flows). 

The lay-out of the detector is shown in Fig. 6. Two layers of 16 silicon strip detector modules each for charged particle tracking and vertex reconstruction are surrounded by a cylinder constructed of 16 rows of 12 Csl (pure) crystals for the detection of the two 511 keV 7-rays. This arrangement gives a large solid angle coverage for both particle types and a sufficiently fine resolution for vertex reconstruction.
