Particle size design

Liu, P. D., Futran, M., Midler, M. and Paul, E. L. (1990). Particle size design of pharmaceuticals by continuously impinging jets precipitation. AIChE Meeting, Chicaco. [Pg.342]

A magnesium/zinc combination product is available from Chemtura as Ongard 2, specific gravity 4.4, 1.5 p,m particle size, designed primarily to aid char formation in rigid and semirigid vinyl. A further combination with AOM is also available as Smokebloc AZ-40. [Pg.411]

Cyclone Efficiency. Most cyclone manufacturers provide grade-efficiency curves to predict overall collection efficiency of a dust stream in a particular cyclone. Many investigators have attempted to develop a generalized grade-efficiency curve for cyclones, eg, see (159). One problem is that a cyclone s efficiency is affected by its geometric design. Equation 15 was proposed to calculate the smallest particle size collectable in a cyclone with 100% efficiency (157). [Pg.395]

Fluidized-bed design procedures requite an understanding of particle properties. The most important properties for fluidization are particle size distribution, particle density, and sphericity. [Pg.70]

Particle Size. The soHds in a fluidized bed are never identical in size and foUow a particle size distribution. An average particle diameter, is generally used for design. It is necessary to give relatively more emphasis to the low end of the particle size distribution (fines), which is done by using the surface mean diameter, to calculate an average particle size ... [Pg.70]

Gopolymerization. The chemistry of the resin matrix, the type and degree of porosity, the particle size, and the particle size distribution are estabhshed in the copolymerization step. Formulations and operating procedures must be strictiy foHowed. Reaction vessels must be weH designed. Mistakes made during copolymerization are rarely corrected during functionalization. [Pg.372]

Catalyst Particle Size. Catalyst activity increases as catalyst particles decrease in size and the ratio of the catalyst s surface area to its volume increases. Small catalyst particles also have a lower resistance to mass transfer within the catalyst pore stmcture. Catalysts are available in a wide range of sizes. Axial flow converters predorninanfly use those in the 6—10 mm range whereas the radial and horizontal designs take advantage of the increased activity of the 1.5—3.0 mm size. [Pg.340]

Analysis of a method of maximizing the usefiilness of smaH pilot units in achieving similitude is described in Reference 67. The pilot unit should be designed to produce fully developed large bubbles or slugs as rapidly as possible above the inlet. UsuaHy, the basic reaction conditions of feed composition, temperature, pressure, and catalyst activity are kept constant. Constant catalyst activity usuaHy requires use of the same particle size distribution and therefore constant minimum fluidization velocity which is usuaHy much less than the superficial gas velocity. Mass transport from the bubble by diffusion may be less than by convective exchange between the bubble and the surrounding emulsion phase. [Pg.518]

The particle size of typical natural mbber latex ranges from slightly higher than 1 )Tm to as small as 20 nm, and can be destabilized by mechanical or chemical action. Machinery used to stir or maintain latex circulation should be designed to minimize fluid shear, particularly where that may be locally intensified, eg, at the junction of blade with shaft. [Pg.252]
