The models that require parameter e.stimate.s are approximate. Much of the theoretical basis of the parameter definition is lost. Equipment nonlinearities and boundaries are not accounted for in the analysis.

The Hu and Bentley model is the only one that tries to describe VLP production and assembling in baculovirus infected insect cells [105]. Nevertheless, regarding VLP assembly, the formalism presented is completely theoretical and based on the assembly pathway of icosahedral viruses. From a process development point of view, this model does not generate enough output to make it applicable to bioreaction operational parameters definition. However, it can be used as the basis for a more structured approach to the VLP assembling process in baculovirus infected insect cells. 

Mole balance expressions were developed for a general series reaction by Agarwalla and Lund [16], and the same procedures were used here to develop the species balance equations shown in Table I. Boundary conditions and parameter definitions are presented in Tables II and III. Note that the boundary conditions are given only for co-current flow of reactants and inert, which is the only configuration studied. Previous work [16], has shown that counter-current operation is less effective than co-current operation.
