Paints continued high performance

As water-based paints become much more widespread in use, then the challenges to achieving a direct match to solvent based paints become more acute. For example, automotive coloured base coats in Europe are mainly water based whilst repair paints are still mainly solvent based. A key target for water-based auto paints is to achieve the same colour properties as solvent-based and in a number of areas this still represents a challenge to the industry. This paper discusses three areas where the continuing development of polymeric dispersants can help to meet the high performance challenge. [Pg.24]

More than 20 years have elapsed since the introduction of the first commercial sol-gel abrasive mineral, yet the synthesis of high performance abrasive particles remains the most important industrial application of sol-gel technology. Presently over 10 million pounds of sol-gel-derived, aluminous abrasive minerals are manufactured every year. Newly developed sol-gel abrasives have continued to raise the level of performance in grinding, shaping and polishing of essentially every material type and in the controlled removal of paint and the conditioning of surfaces. [Pg.1379]
