Paint constituents pigments

Crosslinked acrylic microgels in aqueous and non-aqueous media were patented as paint constituents in 1979 to improve the orientation of aluminum flake pigments, restrict the flow of the liquid coating on the substrate and restrict sagging [324]. As the patent speaks of emulsions, insolubility of the microgels and particle sizes up to 200 nm, it is questionable whether these polymers consisted of microgels only. [Pg.220]

The size distribution of particles in a wide variety of particulate systems is of paramount importance in the chemical processing industries. For example, the compacting and sintering behavior of metallurgical powders, the flow characteristics of granular material, the hiding power of paint (qv) pigments (qv), and the combustion efficiency of powdered coal (qv) and sprayed fluids, are all heavily influenced by the size of the constituent particles (see Flow... [Pg.126]

The basic constituents of modern paints include pigments, film formers, solvents and additives. Varnishes and lacquers have the same composition as paints, but lack pigments (Mathias 1984 Rose and Vance 1997). [Pg.662]

T. Schauer has used modified flow field flow fractionation to determine the particle size of each individual constituents of a three component mixture of paint hinder, pigment and filler, characterized by relatively broad and overlapping distributions. He was able to follow the changes on mixing them [61]. [Pg.163]

The basic constituents in a self-polishing antifouling paint are 1) the binder system, 2) the biocides and pigments and 3) the solvents. [Pg.197]

When polymers are used as constituents of coatings, paints, and lacquers, they require solvents as dispersing agents. Whether true solutions are formed or emulsions, the solvents used have to conform to environmental specifications, but should be sufficiently volatile so as to permit rapid drying of the applied polymer and pigment, if present. One should examine chapter 6 and the appendix for green examples of coatings solvents. [Pg.31]

Ref 2) d 4.498 at 15° nearly insol in w sol in acids(Ref 14). Can be prepd by the interaction of Ba chloride and Na chromate or by other methods(Ref 1,3,7,9,12,14 15) Its toxicity fire hazard are discussed in Refs 11 12. It is a power 1- 1 oxidizer and reacts vigorously with reducing materials. It has been used in paints, ceramics, matches and pyro-technics(Refs 8,13 16) but its main use is as a constituent of corrosion-proof pigments employed in construction of aircraft(Ref 7a)... [Pg.59]

Metals may be introduced into paints as the principal constituents in pigments, in drying oils, in pesticides or antifouling compounds and as markers in security paints. The need to monitor metal levels arises from the effects trace metals may have upon the colour or quality of the paint, its toxicity or in forensic applications. Many countries have legislation specifying the maximum permissible levels for toxic elements in toys. The British Toy (Safety) Regulations 1974 [144] sets dry weight limits in paint or varnishes on toys for soluble barium of 500 ppm, soluble antimony and... [Pg.424]

Binder. A resinous or resin-forming constituent of a paint that binds together the pigment particles and holds them on the surface. [Pg.202]

Paints also contain additives, which are added in small quantities to modify some properties of the pigments and binder constituents. [Pg.204]

Barium chromate is used in the following applications as an anti-corrosive agent, as a pigment in paint, in ignition control devices, in safety matches, as a constituent in pyrotechnic compositions, and as a coloring agent in ceramics. [Pg.603]

It is hard for recovered RP waste after consumption to reuse by pulverizing method, as shapes are not uniform, material constituents are diverse, other materials than RP (metal, wood, other plastics, paint pigment) and... [Pg.76]

Oil paintings containing lead(I[) compounds as constituents of their pigments darken over the years. Suggest a chemical reason for the color change. [Pg.689]
