Paint coatings degradation

The extent of protective paint loss can be determined using standard methods for evaluating the degree of rusting on steel surfaces (see ASTM D 610 and Ref 5) and paint coating degradation (ASTM D 660 , D 662 , D 714", and D 772 ).

When the protecting effect of the coating eventually fades, possible corrosion of the aluminium base metal will not degrade the surface appearance, as observed in the case of rust runoff on steel. The renovation of paint coatings on aluminium will be less frequent than on other metals.
